Women (founders) are more likely to say they want to \u201cchange the world\u201d : Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2018. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wanted to take a peek at last years Startup Genome Global Startup Ecosystem Report – 2018 (new one due next month) and in continuation of my post \u2018Women make 25% less than men’ – last Sunday(10th March) I wanted what the surgery said about Startup Founder – both female and male. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Their analysis found \u2018that women are more likely to say they want to \u201cchange the world\u201d with their startups, while men are more likely to say their main mission is to \u201cbuild high-quality products.\u201d We also find that in their local ecosystems, women tend to build more relationships with other founders, but are not as well-connected to investors as their male counterparts (Is it because the VC\/Angel ecosystem is still a predominantly male club? – annotation mine). Additionally, our research shows differences in how female and male founders initially finance their startups.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a lot more in the report itself. Most interesting are the subsections that are in growth mode (\u2022\u00a0#1\u00a0Adv. Manufacturing & Robotics (189% 5-year increase in early stage funding deals) \u2022\u00a0#2\u00a0Agtech & New Food (171%\u00a05-year increase) \u2022\u00a0#3\u00a0Blockchain (163% 5-year increase) \u2022\u00a0#4\u00a0Artificial Intelligence, Big Data & Analytics (77.5% 5-year increase) and those in decline (\u2022\u00a0#1\u00a0Adtech (35% 5-year decline in early stage funding deals) \u2022\u00a0#2\u00a0Gaming (27% 5-year decline in early stage funding deals) \u2022\u00a0#3\u00a0Digital Media (27% 5-year decline in early stage funding deals).
