Noam Cohen in his piece &#8216;Seeing Through Silicon Valley\u2019s Shameless Disruption&#8217; in Wired provokes some critical thoughts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The track record of \u2018Facebooks involvement in the 2016 election, Youtube\u2019s algorithmic promotion of anger and extremism, Amazon\u2019s assault on small bookstores and local retail outlets &#8216;- provides a different narrative from the disruption driven monopolies the Silicon Valley mavens have been espousing.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/media.licdn.com\/dms\/image\/C5122AQGqvoMPjLAAwQ\/feedshare-shrink_800\/0?e=1570665600&amp;v=beta&amp;t=bSjv-D7WRcD5TJYWt5Gj_4NDcfzWPe_QzIwazF53Ym4\" alt=\"\u2028The other side of disruption\" width=\"600\" height=\"900\"\/><figcaption>Photo by\u00a0Cole Keister\u00a0on\u00a0Unsplash<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He writes &#8211;  \u2018Because, let\u2019s face it, Silicon Valley technology &#8230; isn\u2019t so transformative that it would simply replace the existing systems on its merits. Uber isn\u2019t better than a good mass-transit system; Facebook isn\u2019t better than actual friendship; YouTube videos aren\u2019t better than quality entertainment; a neighborhood littered with Airbnbs isn\u2019t better than a community-oriented one; a computerized learning plan isn\u2019t better than a great teacher.
