Look around and you see things you take for granted. Today I will share two articles that I read recently – one on the invention of the Zipper – its initial failure and ultimate world domination – the other listing 19 inventions by Women.
The first focuses on how the Zipper came about – its long history, the fact that there were very effective ways to join two pieces of anything – buttons, hook and eye through the ages that didn’t make the zipper exactly something the market had been waiting for. More importantly it went through numerous stages and people to get to what we use ubiquitously every day.
The other is about 19 inventions we are so familiar with but possibly had no idea that they were invented by women – starting with the flat bottom paper bag to some, like the dishwasher, way back in the 1880’s.
Quick reads both. Looking back can help us look forward.
