As always, the Blissfully Annual SAAS report has a wealth of interesting findings. App turnover is common (I get that – with so many me too products with little differentiation chasing the same market) – typical mid sized companies changed 39% of their stack last year. 71% of companies has at leas one SaaS subscription with no billing owner.
Some quick stats:
Average spend on SAAS per company is quickly growing and stands at $343,000, a 78% increase from previous year. From $22000+(per employee – $1,371) for a 50 employee company to as much as $7 Mn for a 1000+ employee co (per employee – $3,297).
The average employee uses 8 apps, while company wide it ranges from 40 (for a 50 man co) to an astonishing 203(for a 1000 member team). As SaaS purchase is decentralized there are multiple owners and no birds eye view of usage or spend – means duplicate and orphaned subscriptions. Every department uses SaaS with the bulk being used by Engineering (Sales is loosing ground in usage since 2014, amidst strong growth in number of sales related SaaS apps).
Quite fascinating to explore. And ponder about.
