Listening to Ray Kurzweil is always fascinating. For those of you who have not heard his intimate chat with Chris Anderson, curator of TED, in the The TED interview podcast.
For starters, it was frank, Ray said that his pills intake has reduced from 250 ( 2005) to 100 ( 2018), spoke on the 147 predictions made in his book ‘The Age of the Spiritual Machines’ (1997), the fact that nearly 86% have come true and the balance 14% are directionally correct but off the mark by a few years.
His prediction – machines taking away jobs would be moot as most countries will offer UBI for a comfortable living and people will focus on purpose not livelihood.
He also talks about the creation of synthetic neocortex ”…we will connect the top layers of our neocortex to synthetic neocortex in the cloud. And just like two million years ago, we will put that additional neocortex at the top of the neocortical hierarchy……If you then do the math, we will expand our intelligence a billion fold by 2045.”
“There are scenarios to wipe out every disease and aging process with these medical nanorobots.”
Ray predicts medical nanorobots will go inside the body and extend the immune system. He touches upon reprogramming the genetic processes and the immune system through immunotherapy. We are headed towards “…’longevity escape velocity’, where you are adding more time than is going by, …to your remaining life expectancy. I believe that will happen for diligent people in the developed world in about a decade, I actually feel I’m there.”
