YouTeam — Dev Teams Marketplace, a YC co. listed the VC’s making Series A investments and companies those garnered them. Seems like Biotech and Pharma are the largest beneficiaries (in terms of number of companies in top 25 – which is what they listed – as well as the $ raised). All data was sourced from Crunchbase.
– So top 3 months that garnered funding in 2019 – October, July and January.
– Top 3 sectors? Healthtech, Finch and E commerce (some interesting angles with Health and wellness appearing dominant).
– Top investors – Andreessen Horowitz with 16 investments, Accel : 13, Bessemer Venture Partner and CRV 10 each & Kleiner Perkins and Redpoint 9 each.
– Top 4 Co’s that raised giant rounds – Nuvation Bio ($275M), Century Therapeutics ($250M) One Trust and Mission Lane ($200M each). Average Series A rounds were much more reasonable $9M.
Other interesting companies included – Bakkt – infrastructure for managing digital assets, Commongrounds – co working space (would be interesting to see any fallout of the WeWork saga as it unfolds in 2020), Appharvest – next gen farming and Webflow – zero code website builder.
Identifying the right investor seems to be the key.
