Have you ever wondered who instructs a Uber driver or a Postmate or Deliveroo worker what to do next, which route to take and how he is being rated. Right. It is algorithm. Self training AI.
A study conducted by Mareike Möhlmann and Ola Henfridsson with Lior Zalmanson (Tel Aviv University) and Robert W. Gregory (University of Virginia) interviewing “34 drivers, analyzing more than 1,000 online forum posts, reviewing media coverage of Uber between December 2015 and September 2018” provided insights into the issues that are bothering and creating behavior deviations in the workforce. Wondering about the scale of impact? There are 3 million Uber drivers worldwide.
So what are the problem areas?
– Constant Surveillance
– Little or no transparency – the Apps learn about the driver but the driver knows nothing about how the app works – and soon neither will the companies.
– eading to Dehumanization. Unlike traditional taxi services there is no one on the other end available for chatter.
Thinking of how tech is going to impact us this is one important area we are not even cognizant about. To get a grasp of how things are transforming , I suggest you read this article.
